Cellular/Wireless: Installation and Settings

When a wireless link is used in place of a telephone line some adjustments to the RFC-1/B system may be required.

Many issues can be overcome with proper system settings. Programming changes can be made in the field and typically need to be made only one time.

Answering Incoming Calls

Most telephone line emulation devices produce a ring signal that is slightly different from that of a telephone line. In the factory setting the RFC-1/B may fail to recognize the ring signal and will not answer.

The RFC-1/B has a ring sensitivity adjustment to compensate for this.

Placing Outgoing Calls

Early RFC-1/B systems were not capable of generating Touch-Tones. Eventually the DTMF tones were stored in the system so that the RFC-1/B can tone dial. The stored tones are a little unusual to compensate for a system was not designed to generate them from the start.

The factory setting for dialing is pulse (rotary) dialing. The tone dialing system was carefully engineered and it works in almost all cases. A small number of devices do not respond to the DTMF tones that the RFC-1/B generates.

Some devices recognize pulse dialing and the factory setting works. The RFC-1/B has a system setting to enable tone dialing for devices that require it.

Tone dialing requires the RFC-1/B to be running firmware version 5.07 or greater. Enter the command "78" to read the firmware version of the RFC-1/B.
